In all classes we have introduced a set of recommended reads for each year group. The purpose of the recommended reads is to provide age appropriate, interesting stories that will appeal to the children. These stories are to be read between the child and an adult as some of the books are quiet challenging. It is hugely important for children to hear others read to pick up on expression and emotion in stories. These books are also brilliant for asking important questions. Predicting what will happen based on the title and front cover pictures is an important skill as well as making predictions further into the story based on what has happened so far. I have linked a couple of useful resources which include other key questions to ask during the stories. We anticipate that these stories will last between 3-4 weeks at home, reading a few pages and having a discussion a few times a week. The aim is for every child to read the 10 books over the course of the year (recorded in the back of their reading records). Thank you.
