At Lothersdale School we actively encourage high levels of pupil attendance.
Illness:
Children who are too ill to come to school or may pass infection to others should not attend school. If your child is absent due to sickness or diarrhoea they must not return to school for 48 hours from their last episode of sickeness/diarrhoea.
It is essential that you let us know if your child is going to be absent by 9.00am. If you do not contact us, we will contact you to determine why your child is absent. Registers close at 9.15am.
Pupil leave of absence in exceptional circumstances during term time:
No parent/carer can demand leave of absence as of right. The Education regulations state that applications for leave must be made in advance by a parent with whom the child lives and can only be authorised by the school in exceptional circumstances. Each application is considered individually by the school.
The following points should be noted:
- There must be exceptional circumstances for the leave of absence
- Pupil’s attendance must be above 90% for the previous 20 weeks
- The pupil must not already have unauthorised absence.
- The period of leave requested should not coincide with the first two weeks of the start of term, or SAT’s exams or other significant events in the school calendar.
For further information regarding holidays in term time please refer to the school policy.
