The Effects of Global Warming

Class 2 have been learning about our globe and the effects of global warming. We first explored the 7 continents and 5 oceans that make up our globe and learnt some interesting facts about each of them. The children then made their very own globes using some big balloons! We then discussed what we knew about global warming already and the effect it is having on our globe. The children were very passionate about this. We did an investigation to find out the effect of global warming and greenhouse gasses on our globe. We did this by timing how long it took two pieces of ice to melt. One piece of ice was in a tray open to the fresh air and the other tray was wrapped in cling film to act as the layer of greenhouse gas. The children were amazed at how much quicker the ice under the cling film melted. Following this we then looked at a few ways in which we could reduce our impact on climate change in our day to day lives. Some of the ways we thought of are: to turn the taps of when washing our hands, always turning lights of when we leave a room and perhaps putting a jumper on instead of using more heating.
