Walking through History

The children in Class 4 had a hugely enjoyable 7 mile walk around Lothersdale on Thursday 3rd March, looking at the history and geography of the village. Starting at Raygill Fisheries, which used to be the quarry and one of the main employers in the village, we visited the Chapel and the Clubhouse, saw the mill pond, the old Post Office and shops, The Quaker House, Pub and Mill before geocaching along the beckside and back up to the main road. We then went to learn about the lead mine, though stopping en route to visit some newborn lambs (and hear the gruesome details of the gibbet at the crossroads). Huge thanks to Ann and Steve of Muddy Boots Adventures for leading a highly informative and incredibly interesting expedition.
