Learning and exploring in Class 1.

As we returned to school from the Christmas holidays, Class 1 were keen to get back to learning, playing and exploring with their school friends. Our first half term had lots of highlights including learning about Chinese New Year celebrations, meeting and finding out about the jobs of 2 police officers and 2 paramedics and, of course, continuing to visit Lothersdale woods where we fed the birds with our home made bird cakes. Our next step is to learn to be really quiet in the birdhide so the birds come back, so we can study them further.

In class we also had a focus on painting, and all of the children took care and time to improve their brush and colour mixing skills. Whether they were painting police officers or paramendics, wild birds or Chinese dragons the children all produced work they were proud of in our craft area.

Developing physical and fine motor skills are another regular focus for us, and last half term we used this to good effect by learning to thread and weave. Remembering the 'over-under-over-under' pattern took some skill as did the care we had to use so as not to rip the paper! All of the children were pleased with their weaving...we hope you liked your Valentine gifts too.
