Feed the birds!

Bird watching has become a favourite activity in Class 1. We have binoculars to use and clipboards to record the birds we see. By using British wild bird books and picture cards, the children have become much more confident to name and describe common birds including robin, chaffinch, blue tit and blackbird.

We will use this knowledge throughout the year as we go to the park and woodland for ‘Out and About’ sessions.  Currently there are lots of cheeky birds who have settled in Class 1 (high above the display boards and on our top windowpanes) which the children enjoy spotting and recording.

As part of our learning about people who help us, we decided to help the birds. The children worked in little teams to make bird cakes using raisins, lard, cheese and bread crumbs. This was sticky and smelly work! Hopefully the birds enjoyed their treat when we took the cakes to the woods.
